Our Stumpy’s Story

Our Stumpy’s Story,

It all began on a rainy cold January day in 2019, when all the kids were home on break, and we had exhausted our Nexflix and Amazon prime que’s. We were looking for something fun and different to do. I saw something about Axe throwing on FaceBook so we decided to check it out. We went and had a fun time and my husband who has always wanted to own his own company (hence us also owning a karate school) says he thinks this is a business to do. So, he began to research and found the Stumpy’s franchise. Could we have done this on our own? Yes, but Stumpy’s had a proven tested method that seemed to be working. Tony went and met with the franchise owners and toured the original indoor axe throwing venue in the US and was hooked. We were going to open a Stumpy’s.

So, in June of 2019 Tony quit his job of 24 years and we signed the franchise agreement with Stumpy’s so excited for what was coming next. We began looking for a location in the Plano Frisco area as it is growing so fast and there are several Corporations moving there. After being in the corporate world for over 24 years Tony thought that Stumpy’s would be the ideal place for corporate team building events along with other private events. His goal was to utilize the off hours for as many of these types of private events as possible.

In February of 2020 we found the perfect location after a LOT of searching. (Thanks to our wonderful realtors Tom and Mark) so in February we signed our lease and were so excited to start construction. We immediately had the franchise send their architect and got our blueprints and had the plans out to contractors to get started. We finally settled on a contractor in early March 2020 and were ready to get started…….. THEN the world shut down due to COVID 19.

At first, we like the rest of the world thought “no big deal we’ll be up and ready to go 3- or 4-months tops. In the meantime, we will work on getting our interior decorative wood ready.” We drove out to my brothers in East Texas and cut down cedar trees. Went down south a bit to my other brothers and used his chainsaw plainer. And began making counter tops and other things. Started stacking things in the garage. Went to the location to take down some stuff the previous renters had left behind. Cleaned things up for our construction to start any time now. Did some Zoom training with the franchise ready to get going any day. But…….. COVID19.

Finally in January 2021 TWO YEARS after this Idea landed in our brain, we began construction at the location. It’s been a very long Journey and we’ve learned a LOT along the way, but we can finally see a light at the end of this very long tunnel and are so excited to open our doors and invite y’all in to have some fun, visit with friends, sling some hatchets and enjoy yourselves with us at Stumpy’s Hatchet House Frisco TX.

Thank you for your interest in our story.

Have a BLAST with your social throwdown!!
